How Strong Are You Really

How Strong Are You?

Try This Quick Test to Find Out

Want a simple way to check your strength, stability, and overall wellness? Try this quick test to see where you stand—and what you can do to improve.

The Sit-to-Stand Strength Test

The test is simple: How many points of contact do you need to get up off the floor?

1 point of contact → Elite strength and stability 💪 You're in great shape!
2 points of contact → Strong and healthy ✅ You’re doing well!
3 points of contact → Needs improvement ⚠️ Time to work on strength and balance.
4 points of contact or more → At risk for mobility issues 🚨 Prioritize building strength to maintain independence.

How to Try It Yourself

  1. Find a safe space. Choose a flat, open area where you won’t bump into anything.
  2. Sit on the floor. You can start cross-legged, kneeling, or in any comfortable seated position.
  3. Stand up using as few points of contact as possible.
    • What’s a point of contact? Any time a part of your body touches the floor to help you push up, it counts as a point of contact. This includes:

      - Hands
      - Knees
      - Forearms
      - One hand grabbing a leg for support

    • The goal? Get up using only your feet, if possible!
  4. Count your points of contact. Each extra touchpoint indicates a need for more strength, stability, or flexibility.

Why This Matters

Your ability to get up off the floor without assistance is a key indicator of overall health, mobility, and longevity. The stronger and more stable you are, the easier daily activities—and life—become.

What to Do Next

If you struggled with this test, don’t stress! Strength and stability can be improved with the right exercises and consistency.

Focus on:

✅ Leg strength (squats, lunges)

✅ Core stability (planks, dead bugs)

✅ Balance training (single-leg stands, stability exercises)
